Commitment to excellence
Actionplas are a Made in Yorkshire Platinum Member
A productive start to March for Made in Yorkshire members when Actionplas opened their doors to host MIY’s second Skills Working Group. Based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, ActionPlas use state-of-the-art CNC and conventional machinery to supply a varying range of speciality machined plastic components to large and small businesses across the UK & Europe.
The Skills Working Groups are a series of events set up by Made in Yorkshire so that members can share best practice, issues, and trends around skills within manufacturing and engineering across Yorkshire. Topics covered in last weeks session include apprenticeship levy, ageing workforce, apprenticeship issues, competition for candidates, and how to make the sector more attractive.
Kenny Stoddart, Operations Director at Appris Management Limited, was invited to be a guest speaker. He gave an update on the apprenticeship levy and what it means to be above or below the £3m threshold level. He then gave the group an overview of the practices Appris have implemented with manufacturing and engineering firms in West Yorkshire and apprenticeships it supports.
As a nice addition to the event, Chris Wray, MD of Actionplas invited those in attendance to join him for a tour of his workshop to explain further some of the challenges and triumphs they encounter at Actionplas.
When asked for his thoughts about the Skills Working Group, Chris spoke highly of the benefits “These events are really valuable; it’s something new to us as a company and me and an individual, but it’s really important for businesses across the Yorkshire region get together to discuss and simplify business. There’s a shortage of people out there to turn to as an MD and an owner of a business, so it’s very beneficial to be able to discuss issues that arise with day to day business.”The next Skills Working Group will be announced very soon!
